Since my grandfather was a kid, the Hoffmans have emphasized the importance of going all in — or not going at all. My great-grandmother infamously had a saying that would come out of her mouth shortly before having my dad re-dust her living room or my uncle re-sweep her kitchen floors:
"If you're going to do it half-ass, you might as well not do it at all."
Or, as one of our favorite historians put it:
"Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not for men."
